60+ Makers Put ToAuto’s New Smart Cutting Machine to the Test—Then One Customer Put Its Service to the Test

Shenzhen, China, Sept. 04, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Across Nevada, San Diego and Costa Mesa, ToAuto’s Smart Cutting Machine was tested on agate, turquoise, opal, petrified wood and more. During the same launch period, a first-batch customer issue became an unexpected test of the company’s customer-first promise.

Launching a new tool in a lab is one thing.
Putting it in front of experienced lapidary artists, mineral collectors, jewelry makers and first-time users—and asking them to cut their own materials—is another.

That is exactly what ToAuto has been doing during its U.S. roadshow for the new Smart Cutting Machine, with stops at Nevada Mineral & Book Company, the San Diego Mineral & Gem Society, and Gem Faire Costa Mesa.

The goal was not simply to show people how the machine works.
It was to see how people actually work.

And over several days of live testing, one pattern became clear: makers were less interested in headline specifications than in what happened at the blade.
Could they control the cut?
Could they see what they were doing?
Could they talk while the machine was running?
Could they clean it without turning cleanup into another project?
And if something went wrong after the sale, would the company stay involved?

The First Test: Real Materials, Real Workflows

On August 23–24, ToAuto brought the Smart Cutting Machine to Nevada Mineral & Book Company, where owner Walter S. Lombardo—an exploration geologist, jeweler and longtime business owner—joined mineral enthusiasts and local club members in testing a range of materials.

The cuts included Montana agate, Turkish agate, thundereggs and geodes.

Users changed speeds, adjusted the material and evaluated the machine as they would in their own studios.

What surprised many of them first was not the cutting power.
It was the sound.
“I could barely hear it.”
“We can actually talk while it’s cutting.”
“I didn’t even notice it was running.”
For makers working in garages, home studios or shared spaces, quieter operation changes the experience. A machine that performs well but disrupts the room can quickly become a machine people avoid using.
The brushless motor and adjustable-speed system helped users match the cut to different materials instead of forcing every stone through one fixed setting.
The finished surfaces also drew attention.

“It looks almost ready for polish.”
For an experienced lapidary user, that reaction matters more than a speed number on a brochure. A cleaner cut can mean less corrective grinding, less material loss and more confidence when working with a specimen that may be difficult—or impossible—to replace.


Different Materials, Different Speeds

On August 26, the roadshow continued at the San Diego Mineral & Gem Society, where about 20 members tested materials of different sizes, thicknesses and cutting characteristics.

The group worked with petrified wood, turquoise, opal, glass-like material and agate, changing speed as the materials changed.

That behavior is exactly why ToAuto built both Standard and Fine speed-control modes into the machine.

Rather than relying on one preset, the system allows adjustment across 0–5,000 RPM, with Fine Mode enabling approximately 50 RPM increments for materials that benefit from more delicate control.

During one demonstration, Dawei from the ToAuto team cut an agate into a thin slice roughly 0.5mm thick.
The room applauded.
The reaction was not to the specification.
It was to the result.
That is the difference between a feature and a benefit.


What Makers Actually Noticed

By the time the machine reached Gem Faire Costa Mesa, August 28–30, more than 40 visitors had tried or closely evaluated it, including experienced lapidary users with more than 20 years in the craft as well as younger first-time users curious enough to step up to the machine.
Across very different skill levels, the same themes kept coming back.


More Control

Different stones behave differently at the blade.
The adjustable-speed system lets users slow down for brittle, thin or unfamiliar material instead of treating every cut the same way.

Cut With Confidence

The 4-inch HD controller provides real-time operating information, while the adjustable illuminated splash guard helps users see the cutting line and material surface more clearly.
One-touch pause and resume allows a maker to stop, inspect the piece and continue without rebuilding the previous speed setting.

Built for Real Work

Users repeatedly commented on the machine’s stable feel, blade quality and solid structure.
The platform uses a 4 mm 304 stainless-steel worktable, galvanized metal construction and separated wet and electrical areas—details intended to matter after months and years of use, not only during a demonstration.

Easy to Own

The low-noise brushless motor, water containment, drainage and overflow system were often noticed because they affect what happens around the cut.
For a home studio or small workshop, easier cleanup and lower disruption can be just as important as cutting speed.

Then the Real Test Came After the Sale

While the roadshow was testing the machine in public, the first production units were also arriving in customer workshops.

Some users were already setting up and sharing positive first cuts. Others were waiting for the right project.

Then a customer in San Jose reported an issue.

The ToAuto customer support and technical team responded by phone and video call, troubleshooting the machine step by step and working through several possible causes and solutions with the customer.

The whole process from beginning to solution is within 1 hour.

At one point, an in-person visit was considered. When the team’s travel schedule made that difficult, the focus shifted from continuing to troubleshoot indefinitely to protecting the customer’s project timeline.

ToAuto offered to arrange an advance replacement unit, so the customer would not need to wait for the original machine to be returned before receiving a new one.

The objective was simple:
Keep the maker moving.

The machine had already been tested by makers.
This time, the company itself was being tested.

For ToAuto, customer-first support does not mean claiming that a new product will never encounter a problem. It means listening quickly, troubleshooting openly, considering multiple solutions and taking responsibility when the fastest path forward is replacement.
Customer support starts long before a support ticket. It starts by listening at the workbench.
